An exhibition in the foyer of the F. X. Šalda Theater showcases the work of two generations: legendary glass artist Petr Novotný and his son Ondřej Novotný

Alongside a selection of works by Petr Novotný, the exhibition will also feature contemporary pieces by Ondřej Novotný, who is showcasing his new limited-edition collection of vases, the Gravity Collection, on this occasion. The exhibition offers a unique insight into the continuity of the glassmaking craft and the legacy passed down from father to son.

Gravity Collection

Design by Ondřej Novotný

Guided by gravity, shaped by will.

The Gravity Collection stems from a fascination with the natural forces that shape the material. It is precisely this moment – when molten glass moves and reacts to gravity – that has become the main inspiration for the entire collection. The individual pieces are created through a process in which part of the material is left to the natural action of gravity. The material gently deforms, stretches and settles into organic shapes.

The Gravity collection is based on a simple yet powerful idea: ‘Guided by gravity, shaped by will’. The material reacts to the force that naturally shapes it, whilst the artist intervenes in the process with subtle adjustments that determine the final character of the object. No two glass vases are ever the same, and each is an original, as its shape is created at the unique moment when the glass is being formed.

Presentation as part of Crystal Valley Week 2026

The Gravity Collection will make its first public debut during Crystal Valley Week at an exhibition at the F. X. Šalda Theatre from 24–29 August 2026. Visitors will thus have a unique opportunity to view the new collection in person even before its official launch, which is scheduled for September in the Novotný Glass shop and online store.

On Saturday 29 August, the final day of Crystal Valley Week, visitors will also have the chance to meet the artist and glassmaker Ondřej Novotný in person at the Novotný Glass exhibition. On Saturday from 2.00 pm to 6.00 pm, visitors to the exhibition will be able to meet the glass artist Ondřej Novotný in person, discover his work and the story of the family glassworks, and find out more about the new Gravity collection.
