Accept our invitation to an engaging lecture by Mgr. Jan Bubal, curator of the mineralogical collections of the Museum of Bohemian Paradise in Turnov.

Although Bohemian garnets are found in Bohemia and other places, the most important centre of their conquest has always been the Bohemian Central Highlands. In the Kolín region, garnets were mined for a relatively short period of time, in only a few locations, while in the Podkrkonoší region they were mostly local occurrences, and the more extensive mining in the vicinity of Hostinné was a matter of the 1990s. Originally, the mined garnets were processed in Prague, but by the beginning of the 18th century at the latest, they were already being cut mainly in Turnov, which remains the most important centre of garnet cutting and processing to this day.
