Zoo Liberec | ŠELMÁRIUM
As part of Crystal Valley Week 2026, a new mosaic installation titled “Šelmárium” is being created on the grounds of the Liberec Zoo. The original design was created by Ella May Jelínek from the Secondary School of Applied Arts for Glassmaking in Kamenický Šenov, which is also overseeing the organization of the entire project. Students from the Secondary School of Applied Arts for Glassmaking in Nový Bor and the Secondary School of Crafts and Services in Jablonec nad Nisou are also collaborating on the mosaic’s creation.
The mosaic installation represents a unique connection between the young generation of artists, the traditional craft of glassmaking, and shared creative energy. For the students, the project is a valuable experience in working in a public space and an opportunity to leave a lasting mark on a site that inspires thousands of visitors every year. The Carnivore House thus becomes a symbol of collaboration, creativity, and the continuing vitality of Czech glass art.
The glass festival mosaic will beautify the facade of the Carnivore House at the zoo and become a striking artistic element of the entire structure. “We greatly value our collaboration with the Crystal Valley Week festival, as well as with the glassmaking schools and young artists who bring a new artistic dimension to our zoo,” says zoo spokesperson Bára Tesařová.
