Turnov - the town of precious stone
The panorama of the town is formed by the towers of churches, the most prominent of which is the tower of the neo-Gothic Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. The Turnov Synagogue, the only one in the Liberec Region to survive the Nazi occupation, is worth a visit. Other important sights include the Hrubý Rohozec Chateau, which dates back to the 13th century, and the Dlaskův Farm in Dolánky u Turnov, which is a unique example of traditional folk architecture of the 18th century. In Dolánky you can also find the House of Nature of Bohemian Paradise, where there is an interactive natural history exhibition focused on the phenomena of Bohemian Paradise.
The town offers its visitors a rich cultural and sporting activities. The sports and recreation area Maškova zahrada with an outdoor swimming pool and an ice rink attracts visitors to sports and relaxation. Traditional events include the April opening of the tourist season Bohemian Paradise for Children, the May Old Bohemian Craft Fair or the Turnov Summer cycle of events, which offers an interesting programme for every day of the week during the holiday months.
A number of marked hiking and cycling trails pass through Turnov, including the Golden Trail of Bohemian Paradise and the Greenway Jizera cycle path. Nearby is the Hruboskalské rock town with more than four hundred sandstone towers and many beautiful viewpoints. On its outskirts there is the rock lookout tower Hlavatice, one of the oldest castles in the Bohemian Paradise - Valdštejn Castle and Hrubá Skála Castle.
