An exceptional evening that will kick off the Crystal Valley Week festival for the fifth time. The PechaKucha Night stage, subtitled "UNITED BY GLASS," will once again feature prominent figures from the worlds of glass, jewelry, and design.
A unique mix of glassmakers, designers, artists, and technological innovators will show you glass as a universal language that transcends borders, bridges tradition with modern design, and connects people around the world in the spirit of this year’s festival motto: Connecting Cultures.
In short and impactful 20-image × 20-second segments, they will take you beyond the boundaries of their world.

The oldest glass school, Africa and contemporary design
Emil Kováč will take to the stage; he has worked for glass studios around the world, helped establish several studios in South Africa and lectured in design at a university in Pretoria. His work will also be showcased during Crystal Valley Week at the BohemiAfrika 4.0 exhibition. Wesley Neal Rasko, who came to the Czech Republic from Canada in the late 1990s, will also speak about his far-flung journeys in search of glass. He combines fused and flat glass with optical crystal and natural materials to create striking spatial installations.
This significant anniversary will be commemorated by Jakub Jelínek, director of the glassmaking school in Kamenický Šenov, which this year celebrates the 170th anniversary of its founding. He will present the history and current state of the institution, which has nurtured generations of artists specialising in various areas of glassmaking.
Kateřina Handlová will present her work, which focuses on lighting fixtures and glass design; she works on her own projects whilst also collaborating with the brands Bomma and Rückl. Olga Staňková will focus on blown and hand-painted glass, a craft she has long been involved in both in the Czech Republic and abroad. The trio will be completed by Magdalena Kracík Štorkánová, the creator of monumental architectural mosaics, who is also involved in the documentation, conservation and restoration of historical mosaics.
Family traditions in glassmaking connect the next two speakers at PechaKucha Night. Ondřej Novotný works at the Novotný Glass glassworks in Nový Bor, and his work focuses on purity and minimalism. David Valner grew up in a family of glassmakers and founded his own studio, where he creates functional objects and works of art. He is keen to experiment with techniques and form.
Rounding off the list of announced names is Lukáš Jabůrek, who, during his eleven years at the Moser glassworks, rose to the prestigious position of artistic director and made a significant contribution to the company’s current creative output. He currently runs his own studio and, during Crystal Valley Week, will also be showcasing his work at the exhibition ‘Nature in Glass, Glass in Nature’ at the Botanical Garden in Liberec. The line-up will also feature a representative from the Mjölk architectural studio, which has long been associated with PechaKucha Night Liberec.
