4:00 p.m. Maxim Velčovský AND THAT'S IT! - Opening
We also invite you to the opening of an exhibition by a Czech artist. It will take place on Monday, August 24, at 4 p.m., with the artist in attendance.
The exhibition Maxim Velčovský: A JE TO! presents the contemporary work of a leading Czech designer, created at the AJETO art glass studio in Lindava near Nový Bor. Velčovský’s work straddles the line between traditional craftsmanship and conceptual design, with the artist often using glass as a medium to explore deeper social and historical contexts.
The exhibition reinterprets the trophy as an artifact that, over time, transforms from a prestigious award into an object with an unexpectedly ironic story. The installation is dominated by glass objects, some of which are made of uranium glass. This material is known for its specific fluorescence, which creates fascinating visual effects.
The AJETO glassworks was founded in 1994 by master glassmaker Petr Novotný and designer Bořek Šípek, who have collaborated with prestigious global brands such as Driade, Vitra, Sawaya & Moroni, Rosenthal, Anthologie Quartett, and Arzenal. The glassworks soon became a global synonym for Czech hand-blown glass. For three decades, it has been a mecca for international artists, designers, architects, and figures from the worlds of show business and film. Among other things, it has also been the birthplace of a number of iconic trophies and prestigious awards.
