A guided tour of the IGS 2024 exhibition will take place on Saturday 30 August at 3pm. The glass works will be presented by the exhibition curator Eliška Vavříčková in the beautiful space of the Nisa Factory.

On the last day of the exhibition we have prepared a guided tour for you. You have a unique chance to see the glass objects created at the XV. International Glass Symposium IGS in Nový Bor, which took place on 3. - 6 October 2024.

The tradition of the IGS has lasted for more than forty years. In 1982-2006, the symposium was organised as a triennial by the Nový Bor company Crystalex. In 2009, the role of the main organiser was taken over by the town of Nový Bor in cooperation with glass companies of the region and vocational schools.

45 artists or creative pairs from 17 countries and all five inhabited continents took part in the 15th anniversary symposium. The artists, by far not only from glass backgrounds, are selected to ensure that the outcome is as diverse as possible in terms of geography, gender, age and creative approach. They are given access to the production facilities of local glass companies. These, although natural competitors to each other, are able to come together for the purposes of the symposium, halt production and invest considerable money, time and the skills of their staff to provide creative facilities for the artists.

Working in a different environment, in front of an audience, with different technical facilities and different glass, and within a time limit of a few days, is a great challenge for the invited artists. Stepping out of one's comfort zone and experimenting outside the ‘safety’ of one's own studio is sometimes a struggle, but it often yields novel solutions and surprising results.
