It is these beads that adorn girls’ headbands and wreaths, men’s hats, and magnificent wedding crowns. Each bead tells a story of craftsmanship and tradition passed down from generation to generation.

The exhibition “What a Splendid Headpiece! Krkonoše Beads on Festive Folk Costumes” will showcase the most beautiful and rarest elements of folk attire intended for life’s special moments, such as weddings, feasts, religious celebrations, and significant social events.

In the exhibition, you’ll discover hundreds of sparkling glass beads. You’ll see not only traditional costume accessories from Bohemia and Moravia, but also from Slovakia and Germany. You’ll also be surprised by examples of special glass beads produced for distant countries, such as Kosovo and Ecuador.

Each traditional costume reflects the character of its region—its traditions, aesthetics, and richness. While some headdresses charm with their simplicity and restraint, others will captivate you with their ornateness and the abundance of beads, which create pieces that are almost like works of jewelry.
